Architecture and Interior Design
Trends for 2013

Architecture and interior design trends are taking some exciting turns this year. At Melton, our design team keeps up with the latest trends so you can have a home that reflects your personal style and incorporates on-trend design elements.

Here are a few trends for 2013 that will get you thinking
of how to update your space:

Architecture and design trends for 2013Emerald Green, Pantone's
Color of the Year

This color is like a breath of green air. Consider adding pops of emerald throughout your home: Splashed on the focal wall of your great room, throw pillows and bedding in the guest room or floor-to-ceiling for impact in a powder bath. Can't commit to emerald? Pantone's spring palette also includes beauties such as grayed jade, dusk blue and (our favorite) nectarine.

Architecture and design trends for 2013Brass is Back

Brass is making a big comeback. Expect to see it in fixtures, lighting, accessories and hardware. Bring the old-school look into your space in a whole new way. Consider modern-style fixtures with the traditional brass finish.

Architecture and design trends for 2013Chevron

The Chevron pattern is showing up in tiles, wallpaper, carpet, fabrics and more. Use this geometric pattern in a bold color for a big bang, or opt for a subtle version that's still ultra-trendy.

Architecture and design trends for 2013Faux Finish Floors

Love the look of wood, but need something more durable because of kids and pets? Consider tile that looks like wood. These sturdy options have the look and feel of wood grain without the maintenance.

Architecture and design trends for 2013Outdoor Living Rooms

Especially popular in Colorado because of our amazing weather and sunshine, outdoor rooms are reaching far beyond a simple deck and barbeque. They are including luxurious seating that makes for a truly comfortable place to spend time, built-in gas fireplaces and outdoor kitchens.

Architecture and design trends for 2013Mix-and-Match Architecture

Love the look of a Painted Lady on the exterior, but long for a clean-lined, contemporary interior space? Have both. Preserve the historical value of a turn-of-the-century home for classic curb appeal, while updating the interior so it works for your family and suits your personal style.

Ty's Tip: Check for Moisture Damage from Ice Dams

Ice dams, built-up ice along the roof overhang, cause millions of dollars of damage to homes each year. Warm air leaking from your home into the attic will melt the snow on your roof, and the run-off drains until it reaches the cold overhang and where it refreezes. Melted water caught by these dams can leak into your home – damaging walls, peeling paint, and soaking insulation. Do a visual inspection of the edges of your roof to see if there is a build-up of ice. To avoid ice dams and the damage they can cause, make sure your attic is adequately insulated and ventilated.
