Seasons Greetings form Melton! As a remodeling company, the term “home for the holidays” has a very special meaning for us here at Melton Construction. That’s because our mission is to give our clients’ homes that special look and feel of welcoming friends and family not just during this special season, but all through the year.

Thank you for letting us share our passion for homes with you each month in our newsletter. And thank you also for doing business with Melton and for sending us remodeling referrals throughout 2010. We truly appreciate your confidence in us and we look forward to sharing useful ideas, insights and inspiration with you in the coming months.

In the meantime, we’d like to take this opportunity to offer you best wishes for a very happy holiday season and a healthy and prosperous New Year.

Planning for 2011 Remodeling Projects Starts . . . Now!

Planning for 2011 starts now!Food, parties, gifts, visits with friends and family... Many times, the holidays leave homeowners wishing they had a better kitchen, nicer bathrooms, a more spacious guestroom – or just more room in general! If you are thinking that 2011 is the year to finally update your home, now is the time to start planning for your remodeling project.

The fact is, good remodeling always starts with good planning.

Working out details, drawing up plans, getting permits, and selecting appliances, fixtures and finishes can take anywhere from three to six weeks to nine months or more, depending on the complexity of your project and the permitting requirements. For example, if you’d like to have a new deck or sunroom ready for the summer, construction needs to begin by spring – but planning should start in December or January. And if you’re thinking you want to have a whole house renovation ready for the 2011 holiday season, or a major kitchen remodel or home addition ready by the late spring, now is the time to start talking with your remodeler.

Step by step to a stress-free remodeling experience.

Do you envy those organized people who had their holiday shopping all done in the summer? They seem to spend less and enjoy the holidays more! Well, homeowners who look ahead and get their 2011 projects into “pre-planning” now can feel just as smart as those “Christmas in July” folks. By starting now, or as soon as the holidays are over, you’ll have plenty of time to explore options and make sure you don’t overlook great “extras” that can be built right into your project without adding significant expense. Also, even in this economy, some of the best remodelers already have their schedules filling up for 2011.

Plus, remember that more complex remodeling and renovation jobs have many steps – everything from feasibility studies and design concepts, to drawings, selections, permits, construction, inspections and so much more. Giving yourself and your remodeler good lead time helps assure the project ticks smoothly on the timeline – and budget – you’re expecting.

Remember, at the bare minimum, you’ll need a few weeks to gather your ideas and talk with remodelers about budget and their schedules and availability for your project. So if one of your New Year’s resolutions is to get started on a new deck, new kitchen or new sunroom for summer, give us a call and let’s map out an action plan!
