6 Ways to Get Your Kitchen Ready for the Holidays

Home For the Holidays

November begins the start of the busy holiday season for you and your kitchen. We suggest starting prepping now to ensure a seamless and stress-free home for the Holidays. Here are some of Melton’s Holiday home tips to get your kitchen ready for the holidays:

Clean & Declutter Your Space

What a perfect opportunity to refresh your home of old documents, mail, and bills lying around. Pre-holidays is the time to get organized and put all those important papers away. Your kitchen will be a flurry of activity over the next couple of months; additional clutter will make your space feel more disorganized. Give your countertops a refresh by cleaning and decluttering them. Time to start a big purge of your refrigerator, as well. Out with the old and in with the new. You will be happy to toss those nearly empty (and expired!) jars of bbq condiments away and make room for all those heartwarming foods intended to be consumed in the winter months. A head to toe deep clean of your kitchen pre-holiday season will help you glide right into the holiday season with much less stress.

Get Your Serveware Ready

If you use special wares for the holiday season, make room to show it off all season long, rather than dust it off the night before. Take inventory of any items you may need that you are missing before the party. Some items, such as gravy boats, matching napkins, and cookware, can be crucial for the final meal and easily overlooked.

Create a Cooking Schedule

Prepping what you can beforehand makes a world of difference. Creating a menu, especially if guests are contributing, will help keep the meal prep organized and chaos to a minimum. Having a schedule beforehand will help you shop for those nonperishables such as those unique spices on your spice rack only used once a year and those specialty cooking pans for certain meals. Start dreaming up your menu and start adding items to the shopping list now to help you and your guests know how they can best help you.

Drink Up While Supporting a Good Cause

If you enjoy wine, especially around this time of year, we suggest supporting a good cause while stocking up on alcohol for you and friends & family. We enjoy ordering cases of One Hope Wine to give to our clients and employees. One Hope wine is committed to creating quality wine while supporting good causes. When you purchase their wine, you help plan trees, help pets find a home, help provide meals to children, and help deliver vaccines to end Neglected Tropical Diseases.

Warm Your Home with an Easy to Make Pot-pourri

One of our favorite ways to warm your home during the cold holiday months is to combine some of your favorite spices and ingredients and let them simmer on your stove all day. Nothing fills your house with holiday scents quite like this will. There are no rules here, include whatever ingredients that fill you with holiday warmth. We include orange peels, dried orange peel, apple slices, cloves, cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, fresh ginger, and star anise. Fill a pot with water, add your holiday ingredients and heat over low heat until simmering. Keep this going for a few hours and add additional water as needed.
